Would you like to have a great vacation in Crete?

Come to Zaros !!
Zaros is a beautiful village situated in the foothills of the Idi mountain range, which includes Mount Psiloritis, the highest mountain in Crete. The village, approximately 40km south of Heraklion, is set in a fertile valley full of olive trees and grape vines and is just 25kms to the idyllic beaches of the South coast.

Zaros & Nature
Zaros means: ‘place of many waters’. All our water comes from mountain springs, we have a water-bottling factory and Zaros water is famous all over the island. There is a beautiful lake set amidst olive & carob trees at the foot of one of the most spectacular gorges on the island. The gorge is the only place in Europe where you will find the rare species of holm oak. For people who love nature, you can follow the European path E4 through these exquisite surroundings.

Zaros & History
There are monasteries built in the Byzantine & Venetian times, ancient archeological sites in the nearby village of Kourtes and a Roman aqueduct. Other places of interest close to Zaros are the picturesque villages of Lalouma, Panaghia, Paliama and Fari,

Zaros & Craftsmanship
We have weaving workshops, craftsmen that make musical instruments, artists that paint holy icons, and sculptors.

Zaros & music
Our local musicians play the real Cretan music on instruments such as the famous Cretan lyra & the laouto.
